Antique Victorian Pocket Watch Style Locket with 2 Daguerreotypes
Beautifully hand chased/engraved landscape adorns the 10k Gold cover of this gold filled locket. Inside you will find 2 female daguerreotypes images. One is more visible than the other as you can see in the pictures below. Daguerreotypes can be removed and your own pictures added.
Locket has solid 10k Gold covers front and back, the balance is gold filled. It is not uncommon for these larger lockets of this period to have such a combination. Each side is chased by hand with a different motif. The front is a beautiful lake or river with buildings on both sides. The back features a scrolled frame, a sunburst pattern and at the center of the sunburst is a scrolled framed area for initials. It is not engraved, you can have your own done. The workmanship is truly excellent.
It is likely that this locket was carried by a well-off gentleman and that the images are wife and daughter, the engraving on the cover his family's place of residence. Of course, there is no way to confirm or deny that.
Overall diameter is approximately 1 3/8" not including the top. Locket opens just like a hunter case pocket watch, by pressing the top button. It stays closed well too.
This locket is in very good condition. One of the daguerreotypes is not all visible as mentioned above. There is also a small bump on the back cover.
