Antique Victorian Banded Agate Gold Filled Hair Locket

Antique Victorian gold filled hair locket with Banded Agate stones on both sides. Banded Agates are sometimes called Sardonyx. This is a hair locket, intended to hold a lock of your loved one's hair and an image on the other side. I believe this locket is entirely original, including the glass covers and bezels, and is about 130 years old. The number 78 is inscribed on the inside, both sides, but it is not possible to determine if it is a date.

Oval locket measures 3/4" at the widest point by about 1" tall not including the ring and bail and is almost 3/8" thick.  The stones are bezel set, the setting is angled and slopes down to the edge.

It is not marked, tests as gold fill. In excellent condition for it's age although there are abrasions to the Carnelian color side, due to age and regular wear. Not obvious in my opinion and does not detract from it's beauty. Very well made, it is unusual to find bezels which are backed like this one. Circa 1860s.
