Antique Victorian Large Round Family Locket Pendant Necklace

This is the most endearing locket I have come across so far. Besides the large size, the beautiful Victorian manufacturing and the extra long chain necklace, this locket has a very sweet message engraved in two sides, placed where it will be covered by photographs.  It is difficult to read but I was determined and finally, here it is.  On one side it reads "Presented by Harry Kohler, X-mas 2003" and on the other it reads "My Little Sailor, Dec 25, 1903".  One can imagine it is the Christmas gift from husband to wife, and that the "Little Sailor" is the first born. Just so sweet, so romantic. The words are carefully inscribed with a sharp instrument.

Locket measures 1 7/16" in diameter not including the loop or the bail.  There is room for 4 images, one on each side and then two back to back in the center. Locket is marked "D & C" , maker not identified.

The chain is newer than the locket, but they were found together and are such a great match. It is heavy, beautiful flat chain style, about 3/32" wide.  Length is a generous 32" . Marked 14kGF and the maker's symbol on the chain tag. Maker not identified.

Both are in wonderful condition. Locket was carefully tested to verify metal content. Truly special piece!
