Vintage Jewelry, Antique Jewelry, Vintage Fashion Magazines and Fine Collectibles plus Jewelry by Vera Battemarco :: Jewels by Maker :: Gret Barkin
Gret Barkin
Gret and her husband Rube Barkin owned and operated Gret Barkin Jewelry in New Hope, PA from the early 1940s. It is interesting to know that the name Gret Barkin also stands for "great bargain". She was born in New York but lived in Holland for 12 years.
Gret worked most of her life and after her husband passed away, moved the studio to her basement where she continued to work past the age of 90. Most of her pieces are Copper, entirely hand wrought and Modernist in style.
Gret Barkin passed away in 2007 at the age of 99. Her work and legacy are as contemporary today as when she started. Most pieces are marked "Hand Wrought, Gret Barkin".
