Vintage Plique-a-Jour Enamel 800 Silver Filigree Dimensional Butterfly Pin Brooch

A truly beautiful and colorful dimensional butterfly brooch made of 800 silver filigree enhanced with Plique-a-jour enamel. It is almost all hand made, except for the safety clasp.  Plique-a-jour enamel is similar to stained glass, the filigree acts as the frame and light shines through. This is a difficult to make pin requiring excellent silversmithing and enameling skills.  It is also gold washed and not silver in color.

The butterfly is dimensional, formed of separate elements. Each set of wings is separate. Fairly large, it measures 2" in wingspan by almost 1 1/2" tall by 3/8" deep at the tips of the wings.  Very well made and quite detailed with bright happy shades of Turquoise, Mint Green and Lavender and Rusty Brown accents.

Brooch is in excellent condition with no issues to report. Likely to date from the 1930s and of European or Asian origin due to the use of 800 Silver.
