South Pacific WWII Lucite Sterling Sweetheart Charm Pin
Lovely clear Lucite and Sterling Silver
sweetheart memento inscribed "S.W.P.A." on the top bar and "New Guinea,
Doris & Al Forever, 1944". Isn't that sweet? Mostly considering WWII
was raging and this couple was in the midst of the South Pacific Allied
stage.
It measures 1 1/2" long by 1 1/8" at the
widest point on the heart. Unmarked and tested. In perfect vintage
condition. Circa, you guessed it, 1944!
About SWPA from Wikipedia:
"South West Pacific Area
(SWPA) was the name given to the Allied supreme military command in the
South West Pacific Theater of World War II. It was one of four major
Allied commands in the Pacific theaters of World War II, during 1942 to
45.
SWPA included the Philippines, Borneo, the Dutch East Indies (excluding Sumatra), Australia, the Territory of New Guinea (including the Bismarck Archipelago), the western part of the Solomon Islands and some neighboring territories.
The supreme commander, General Douglas
MacArthur, was in charge of primarily United States and Australian
forces. Dutch, Filipino, British and other Allied forces also served in
the SWPA.".
