Vintage Blackamoor Necklace

This is a very unusual necklace. It is costume, there is no clasp, it slips over the head.Most of the necklace is a thick rope chain with heavy bead stations and a large hammered link on each side.

The center piece is carved bone and depicts a beautiful African cameo profile, hence the name blackamoor. The term is used in Decorative Arts and it relates to Fine Antiques, Architectural and Jewelry elements.

The gorgeous centerpiece is very nicely carved and the image is so lovely and dignified. Centerpiece measures 1 3/8" by 1 1/2" overall. Necklace is 23 3/4" long.

Unsigned and difficult to date, estimate date 70s to the 80s.
