Vintage Compacts
Vintage compacts, carryalls, vanity cases, necessaires, minaudieres, cigarette cases and powder boxes from the 1890s to today. Made by Du Barry, Richard Hudnut, Elgin, Coty, Dunhill, Elizabeth Arden, Houbigant, Revlon, K&K (Kopler & Kopet), Kerkoff, Djer Kiss, Avon, Stratton and others, including unsigned beauties. These little jewels of design, engineering and craftsmanship are made in materials ranging from paper and tin to solid Gold and Sterling Silver.
Whether whimsical or glamorous, compacts have been a reflection of a woman's style, personality, status and of her time. The compacts we offer here are clean, some have not been used, some will be in their original boxes and a few will be presented as they are a rare glimpse of the period in which they were created. Absolutely all are highly collectible and sought after. Several have been featured in books for collectors. You can still refill some of them, certainly the loose powder compacts.

Edwardian Tango Compact by Marathon
Lovely vintage Edwardian (1920s) tango style compact by Marathon features a Guilloche enamel ornament done on Sterling Silver. The compact itself is white metal with chased patters. Measurements are 3" tall including the clasp by 2 5/8" at the widest point and 9/16" at the thickest point. The chased link chain is approximately 9" long. Marked Marathon on the inside, it does not have a mirror. Not sure if it ever did.

Vintage Vanstyle Art Deco Compact
Vintage very slim Art Deco Period compact by Vanstyle. Shaped like an arch, it is made in gold plated metal with black enamel and engraved accents in striped pattern. The reverse side is also patterned.

Elgin Sterling Cigarette Card Case c 1920s
Vintage Roaring 20s solid Sterling Silver card case originally made for carrying cigarettes. The front cover is engraved with pin stripes, parallel lines which have a symmetrical peak and create an interesting pattern. On the diamond shape at the upper left of the front case you will see the initials GD engraved. The back is smooth.

Rex Fifth Avenue Flapjack Compact Book Piece
Vintage Rex Fifth Avenue "Reverie" oversized flapjack or pancake compact with ivory color vinyl clad case and pansy floral pattern lid. Marked on the puff, which is included.

Zell Fifth Avenue Pocket Watch Compact
Elegant Zell Fifth Avenue loose powder compact and gold case. This particular style is called "Pocket Watch" and it does resemble a pocket watch. The opening mechanism is the same as a hunter case for a watch, press the button and it pops open. It is also slightly off center by design. Compact measures 2 3/8" in diameter. It is in good vintage condition, but the original mirror was glued and it has come loose. It also has a chip, so it was left unglued if you would like to replace it. It can be also glued back as is, as the chip is on the edge.

Atomette Lipstick Holder Rhinestone Compact Mirror
Glam and practical too, this lipstick holder with attached swivel mirror measures 2 1/2" in diameter. It is in acceptable to good condition, some of the small rhinestones are not as bright as they could be, there is excess glue and some patination on the brushed brass finish. It is not as bad as it sounds when viewed in person, but I do not want you to be disappointed. It has also been priced accordingly.
